How to Find the Center of Your Own Existence

This week we learn about how the pursuit of musical knowledge transformed into a spiritual journey.

Jonathan Kay an internationally recognized cross-cultural jazz multi-instrumentalist. In search of non-western ways of musical knowing, he moved to Kolkata, India for 10 years and formally studied North Indian Raga music, innovating its expression on the saxophone as well as the rare 21-stringed instrument, the bora israj. Kay’s time in India, however, did not just transform his thinking about music but also his thinking on being.

At the moment, Jonathan is a PhD student in the department of East-West Psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco under the mentorship of none other than Dr. Debashish Banerji, who we’ve already interviewed on this podcast. He’s been studying East-West psychology and philosophy, specializing in Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga as well as the non-classical western philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari.
